IGEL D210: Hardware

Igel D210 Thin Client

As can be seen in the photographs my Igel D210 came without any mounting foot. The datasheet does say:

"CAUTION: Standard deployment of the device is in vertical position, horizontal deployment only supported with optional rubber feet!"

The unit carries a label identifying it as a D210 which was part of the UD2 range. One thing to note here is that there are two types of D210, one with a 500MHz CPU and one with a 1GHz CPU. My example is the 500MHz version.

Google found me two technical data sheets on the D210, only one of which was on the Igel site:

The only differences between the two datasheets were

  • the Model name in the title: IGEL-D210 or D210
  • the CPU clock rate: 500MHz or 1GHz
  • the publication date: 21-11-2011 or 22-11-2013.

Igel D210 label The photo shows the label on the bottom of my 500MHz unit with the model name shown as IGEL-D210. From the above one might suppose that on the 1GHz version it is just shown as D210? (If you have a 1GHz version feel free to send me a photo of the label using the link below).

I don't know when the D210 was launched - maybe 2011? Looking on Igel's web site at the End-of-life products it looks like the 500MHz may have gone out of production in November 2013, with production of the 1GHz model ending in May 2015.

I've noted before that the Igel website is (naturally?) focussed very much on the present. You can find very little (if any) archive information on past products. At the time of writing (May 2018) their press release archive only goes back to December 2016.

Power Supply

The IGEL D210 uses an external 12V supply with a conventional coaxial connector: 5.5mm x 2.5mm.

Memory

Both the Flash memory and the RAM in the D200 are easily replaceable.

Flash:The flash memory is a 1GB Compact Flash card plugged into a socket on the rear of the motherboard.

RAM:There is a single 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM socket for the RAM. The Transcend 1GB DIMM supplied with the unit is labelled: 1G DDR2 800 SODIMM 617833-2116. The D210 data sheet says: "DDR2 533-800 SO-DIMM x 1 (up to 2GB)"
